It has been a mixed year for Nor izzat Sumantri. For he lost his father just three days before the Junior Asia Cup in Malacca in May. But a sterling performace despite his grief helped Malaysia emerge champions in the history of the Junior Asia Cup.

A year ago K. Dharmaraj was not given a ghost of a chance as he led his motley crew of youngsters into the first edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup. For standing in their way was teams that had rich tradition in world junior hockey as Australia and India had won the Junior World Cup titles.
Malaysia has named an experienced team to defend its Sultan of Johor Cup that will commence at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Baru this Sunday.

Astro Arena will telecast live all but one match of the 2nd Edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup that commences this Sunday.

The only exception to the live list is the match between India and Pakistan on November 14 at 2000H as the fooball match between Malaysia and Hong Kong will be telecast on that stipulated time.

The decision to telecast all matches live will no doubt be a tremendous boost to hockey. A total of 6 teams are participating in the tournament. They are Australia, Germany, New Zealand, India, Pakistan and hosts cum defending champions Malaysia.

While most teams in the 2nd Edition of the Sultan Johor Cup will be looking towards a podium finish, Pakistan are out to gain as much experience as they can in order to prepare a decent team for the 2013 Junior World Cup in New Delhi.

With five players in the national senior side, Pakistan coach Rana Mujahid Ali said that his team has somewhat been reduced in strength, but looking ahead is his main priority, thus a decent performance rather then a podium finish is what they are aiming for.

It will be a final outing as coach of Jamilon Mulders who will lead the German squad in the 2nd edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Baru that commences this Sunday.

For Mulders will take over the reins of the German national ladies squad for the next Olympic cycle that ends in Rio de Janeiro. And thus he will use all his knowledge to ensure that five times world junior champions Germany live up to their potential at the SOJC. Assisting him will be Andre Henning who is currently the HTCU coach and is largely tipped to take over Mulders position.

The Pakistan junior hockey team management has retained goal-keeper Mazhar Abbas to lead the side at the Six-Nation Second Sultan Johor International Junior Hockey Championship, starting this weekend in Johor, Malaysia.

The junior team’s manager-cum-coach Rana Mujahid announced a 18-player squad at the Hockey Club of Pakistan (HCP) in Karachi yesterday.

Australia are looking forward to a good outing in the second edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup that gets underway at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Baru this Sunday.
Having been beaten to the title by Malaysia last year, Australian coach Paul Gaudoin has made several changes to the team and only six players from the team that lost 3-2 in sudden death extra time have been retained for this years challenge.

India has named the squad for the 2nd edition of the Sultan Johor Cup in Johor Baru. Besides India the other competing teams in the tournament include Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and the hosts Malaysia.

And shockingly only five players from the team last year have made the cut this time around.

The Pakistan team for the  Sultan Johor Cup will be named on Friday. But missing from the list will be three players who played in the London 2012 Olympics as well as two budding players. The five have been named into the senior Pakistan squad for the Champions Trophy to be held in Melbourne next month.

The international event will be held at Johor Baru Malaysia November 11 to 18. Under the new format announced by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the team management will form the committee which will name the team for the event. Recently, the PHF took the decision to do away with the selection committee and gave the right to the team managements of the senior and the junior teams to select the team.
